history/other projects:
decapod claw started in 2000 as a solo off shoot of "space shrimp"
a colaboration w/ Jon Walker of psyop laboratories. We played a dozen or so
notorius shows in the portland area in 98/99' using drum machines a couple of
synths and maximum distortion. It was sort of space rock w/ more IDM leanings.
Prior to decapod I released a track under "Jesse James" on the first
OMCO comp. which also featured tracks by nudge, solenoid, pulse programming
and others.
"jesse james" (r.i.p.) was my dj handle for 4 or 5 years. I spun mostly
electro, drum&bass, noise, industrial, & stoner breaks (all on the dark
side of course); and was fortunate enough to share the bill with such notables
as dj spooky, the orb, crash worship, mix master morris, amon tobin, spiritualized,dj
vadim,....as well as scratching acitate as part of super soul on his west coast
gigs. I also had regular nights at several portland clubs, played quite a few
one-offs and raves, co-founded "consumation" a weekly featuring experimental
dance, dub weirdness and live electronic music (97'), and co-founded (w/ david
solenoid/broken window chandler) "frequency" a weekly w/ experimental
djs, bands, performance art, and even a show and tell hour for local producers
(98-99'). I still occationally mix records out (usually under dj decapod ) but
prefer to focus on original material.
In 91-93' I did vocals,video,and synth manipulation in "wirehead"
w/ mike grenz (eternal golden void) and several other revolving members. We
started out as a very cabarete voltaire/skinny puppy inspired techno industrial
band with punk rock guitar and gradually morphed into a more coil/halfler trio/orb
ambeint occult kind of thing. We played many shows around the Boise area and
opened for bands like electric hellfire club and chalk circle.
In 89-91' I did cv sequencing, screaming, tape splicing, and general sound destruction
w/ nick lundquist and various others in "ritual filth". An extreme
bangin' on metal- settin' shit on fire -fuck the government -noise/industrial
kind of band. We played w/ caustic resin alot, schloss tegal once, and released
one tape (edition of 100) called "enjoy hate".
